I started this blog in July 2006 as a great way to document my pregnancy and share information about the pending birth of our first child with our friends and family. Now that Tyler and his baby sister, Jenna, have arrived it serves to record the benchmarks and daily progress of their lives.

jenna's adjustment
I think Jenna is adjusting well to Tyler's transition from daycare to school. She still says that she wants to be five now so that she can go to school too, but she is placated with her own backpack. She is also enjoying the new routine where she gets to send off Tyler to school before she heads to daycare.

first day summary
A rough first recess but overall he said, "Mommy, I love my school! I want to go every day, even stay-home days [weekend]." The teacher also said that he was great in the classroom.

missing first day of kindergarten
Alex and I returned from a trip to Montana in time to send Tyler off to his first day of kindergarten. Unfortunately, he came down with a bug the weekend prior and missed his first day of school ever. It was such a disappointment for Tyler and us.

advanced mouth
I took Tyler to the dentist this morning and joked that I should get a discount given Tyler's missing teeth. The dentist said that Tyler's mouth looks like a 6-7 year olds. Makes sense since he started losing his teeth at four years old, which is very early. The hygienist was a bit shocked to find out that Tyler was only five and that he had started losing his teeth so early.
Hard to believe this is the same little boy who was hospitalized at two weeks old for failure to thrive. I joked then that we'd be laughing about it when he was a huge football player someday. He's not playing football, but we are laughing about it!

kid conversation, part II
To follow up on Tyler's statement that I had been married a couple of times, I asked Tyler exactly how many times he thought I had been married. He answered eight! I was a bit shocked at that number. Alex found it reassuring that Tyler at least thought I had been married each of the eight times to only Alex.
It wasn't until I recounted the story to a couple of coworkers that one of them pointed out that Alex and I had just celebrated our eighth anniversary and that maybe that was what Tyler meant. Brilliant! Tyler wasn't so far off now was he?

kid conversation
My daycare provider overheard a conversation between our kids today.
Jenna: I want to marry a princess just like my mommy.
Tyler: That's silly. Mommy's only been married a couple of times and not to a princess...that's crazy!

sixth tooth
Tyler lost his sixth tooth. That completes his gappy grin in time for kindergarten! The bottom two center teeth have already grown back in mostly, but those beside them are just barely poking in to make an appearance.

lunching with oma
Adam's in Severna Park is one of our favorite places to dine. Alex loves the ribs while my mom and I like the tuna steak sandwiches with fresh corn on the cob from the neighboring market (they bring it fresh from the shore each morning). And the kids love to color and cuddle with Oma!
happy 6th birthday ayla
Tyler and Jenna had an awesome time at Ayla's bowling party. Tyler was so proud of himself for coming in first place.

dance class
Jenna loves her dance class. She is very outgoing and doesn't seem concerned that mom is out of sight like some of the other girls. It's hard to say what is her favorite part of class since there are so many great activities (princess wands, itsy bitsy spider, mini ballerina bears), but I'd venture to guess it is riding her horse. Named Bob of course!

fifth tooth
I find it amusing that years ago I blogged as Tyler's teeth first appeared and now I am blogging as they fall out. The fifth one in this instance and the first one on the top. He has quite the jack-o-lantern smile now.

impressive moves
As I'm driving the kids to daycare this morning we are listening to the "Ding, Ding" song ("My Time" by Fabolous). Jenna says, "Mom, look at me. You like my moves?" When I tell her how great her carseat dancing is she responds, "Daddy would be so impressed!"
